Movers and Shakers — November 2017

As the calendar year moves towards its end, Dixon Walter have taken another look at who’s moving. Good luck to all those starting new roles in the coming months.

Professor Gill Valentine has been confirmed to the role of Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sheffield. Professor Valentine has been successfully carrying out the role of interim Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor since September 2017.

Robert Partridge has been appointed Executive Director of Student and Academic Services at the University of Glasgow. He will take up his post in January 2018. Robert is currently Director of Student Opportunity at the University of Leeds; he was previously Head of the International Office at Imperial College and, before that, Academic Registrar at the University of Bristol. Dixon Walter are delighted to have supported this appointment.

Robert Garnish is to take up post of Director of Commercial Services within the Estates and Commercial Services at University of Glasgow in early February 2018. Robert is currently Head of Branch for the John Lewis Partnership in Aberdeen and has worked for John Lewis for over 17 years. During that time he has worked both in Scotland and in Head Office and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to open the new John Lewis branch in York.

The University of Law have announced the appointment of Peter Crisp as its new Pro Vice Chancellor -External. Peter will take up his post at the University on 2nd January 2018, joining the executive management team. Peter is a barrister specialising in property and is a King’s College London alumnus. He began his teaching career as a tutor at BPP in 1997, going on to serve as Dean and CEO of BPP University’s law school from 2003 to 2017.

The University of Bristol has appointed Philip Kent as its new Director of Libraries to lead the University Library in its development as part of the new Strategic Plan. Philip has considerable experience in the Higher Education and Research sectors. He will lead the development of the new University Library in line with plans to develop a highly visible, coherent and welcoming heart at our main campus.

David Loudon has been appointed Director of Estates and Facilities at Durham University. He will take up his position in February 2018. David is currently Director of Property, Procurement and Facilities Management at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The University of Birmingham is delighted to announce that Professor Richard Black has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Social Sciences to drive forward Birmingham’s ambitious plans to become established as a leading global centre for teaching and research in the Social Sciences. Professor Black, who will join the University in April 2018, is currently Pro-Director (Research and Enterprise) and Professor of Development Studies at SOAS University of London.

Keele University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Tasnim Munshi as the new Head of the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences.

Professor Munshi joins from the University of Lincoln where she was the Head of the School of Chemistry and had full responsibility for the management of all teaching provision within the School, including leading student recruitment-related activities. Prior to this Tasnim, a Professor of Chemistry, was the Acting Head of School of Chemistry and Forensic Science at the University of Bradford.

The university is pleased to announce two new members of the senior leadership team following a national and extensive search campaign led by Executive Search Specialists Dixon Walter.

Today, the university is delighted to announce that Claire Aindow, who is currently Head of Academic Partnerships at Ravensbourne University in London, will join the University of Cumbria as Pro Vice Chancellor (Growth and Development) on 7 October 2024 and Zulf Ali will take up the role of Pro Vice Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange) in early December.
